When the first announcement came out that G.O.O.D music was going into production in an upcoming group album a few months back, everyone was hyped. The excitement for Cruel Summer came in a little bit after Watch The Throne, which was Kanye West and Jay-Z's co-album. Then rumors started to fly around on who was going to be included in the album, both producing wise and who'll lay a verse on a track.
Now we come to the present time to Cruel Summer, and how it measures up to all the talk. Even before the album was released, five out of the twelve tracks were released to the public. We had I don't like(Remix), Cold, Mercy, New God Flow, and finally the Hit-Boy produced banger, Clique. All of these tracks came prior to the September 18th album release date.
Regardless of the amount of tracks heard before the album came out, the remaining seven tracks were nothing short of excellent. The album in itself has its own sound to it. All of the tracks seem to fit in together as a whole. I really love the album, even after listening to it a week after the release date. I still love to hear Cold, and especially love to hear Clique being played on the radio. What Kanye did was brilliant, by putting together an album that has so much variety in it . With the recent signing of 2 Chainz, Ye' pretty much covered all of the different type of hip hop styles out there. One of the surprises was including R. Kelly in the To The World track, which also includes Kanye alongside him. Everyone had their own spot in the album, it didn't feel as though someone got left out. Cruel Summer also brought out Ma$e out, who hasn't been heard from in a while now. Then you got the usuals; Big Sean, Kid Cudi, Pusha T, Common, Jay-Z, and Kanye West on the album. All of these artist made the album to what you hear today.
The whole G.O.O.D music group put together the album they were set out to put out. Some people might say it didn't live to their expectation. The album is the album Kanye set out to release. Period. If Kanye West didn't want the album to be released, i'm certain that the album would not have been released on the set date, and would probably would've been released much later.
Buy the album on iTunes.
